    My Thoughts

The 7 Events? What are "The Seven Events"? My only answer is... I don't know. A long time ago my grandmother impacted my life by reading me...

    Buton

  • I have to confess, I haven't been the best at this recently... As you can probably tell, it has been a while since my last post and I feel like a MASSIVE slacker. However, I have recently started scheduling my days out to the minute so I can make sure that I have time to do this. And not just because I HAVE too either... I really enjoy blogging about my thoughts and what has been happening at Converge Students. In fact, it is often hard to find someone that I can talk to about what I am thinking. I know I bore my wife talking about this stuff, so it is great that I have this blog to output some of my thoughts.

That being said, we recently finished a series at youth group called "Inception" that was based partly on the hit movie. When I went and saw it (one of the FOUR times), something they said hit me in a strange way. An IDEA is the most resilient parasite. An IDEA is the MOST RESILIENT parasite. At first I found that odd, thinking, "that's original, but I don't think it makes much sense." However, thinking back on the series I was a part of for J10 Church called Your Move, I came to the realization that this could be one of the most profoundly innovative ideas to cross my mind. When you have a virus, you can tell you are sick because you are usually puking all over the place. When you have a flu bug you an tell because you are freezing cold and feel like you would be better off dead. BUT, when you have an IDEA that is bad, that is destructive, that is possibly life-altering in the worst ways, you don't always know. You are your best salesman, making yourself believe things that are so completely destructive you could possibly never recover, sometimes without even a hint of it's destructive power. And that is SCARY. It is scary to think that we can blindly follow our bad ideas that we consider to be good ones straight down a path to all the places we never wanted to be. The movie also contained this quote: "One idea can grow to change everything about you." And out of those two concept came our series called INCEPTION: One IDEA can grow to change EVERYTHING about you. It was probably one of the best series we have done as Converge Students, mainly because it was so applicable. GOD blessed the lessons and the conversations that came out of them.

So, the last week of INCEPTION rolled around and our plan was to hang out outside and have the last lesson on the football field. However, the rain decided to come out and ruin our plans, so we sprinted over to the nearby McDonalds to get out of the rain. This is where my $25 comes in to play. Since I hadn't had any opportunities to spend it for the last two weeks, I decided to get all of the students ice cream at the McDonalds and have the lesson right there in the lobby. Oddly enough, even though everybody was freezing, they all got ice cream, sat down, and focused intently on the lesson. It was a blessing to have the $25 from the last two weeks to spend on the kids. The lesson went well, the ice cream was devoured and everybody went home cold and wet, but full and (hopefully) deep in thought. All that to say, I love having the opportunity to spend $25/week on my students. Not only has it allowed me to to schedule and have meetings that I would not normally have had, buy it also allowed me to improvise last minute and save the lesson. Thanks again for the opportunity.

Until next week, Peace Out Peeps...
