    My Thoughts

The 7 Events? What are "The Seven Events"? My only answer is... I don't know. A long time ago my grandmother impacted my life by reading me...

    Buton

  • Last week I met with five students on five separate days - for lack of better words, it was insane. However, none of them made me go to the same place as the others and they all were entirely different than the last. Probably the best part about the situation was that my entire schedule was dominated by student meetings - so much that I lost track and didn't seem to get much accomplished on the admin or creative side of my life. It made me feel like a legitimate youth pastor though... So, I'll just give a quick run through since it is so much information...
Tuesday I went to Smoothie King with one of my junior high students and we had shakes and banana chips (I may have included him in last week's blog). We chatted about his siblings and their success of late and about his family life. Good kid. And I think his hat is ridiculous. Thursday I went with one of my high school students that I have taken a curious interest in - mainly due to his passion of late to be on leadership but his lack of motivation when leadership applications were due and when we went on the leadership retreat - to Cheeburger Cheeburger for some shakes. That entire tricky situation allows me an open door to walk right through and question his desire, really allowing for a great conversation about motivation and being consistent on the front end. This student is one of my faves to talk to, mainly because he wants to have legitimate/real conversations instead of the surface-tension lined words that other students like to use while chatting. Friday I met with a brother/sister combo on the leadership team at Starbucks (or "FIVEbucks") and we worked out the details of our "Spring Break-The-Boring" event this year. Watching them decide what is best for the students in Converge is rather hilarious. I can see their own wants conflicting with what they think would be best and them wrestling with what they should suggest. They do an excellent job at it though... This meeting was more of a "formal" meeting and so our conversations were entirely directed at solving the schedule behind the week of insanity. The last student that I got to hang out with I met at Panera and he insisted that I download college lacrosse 2011 and play online with him. ADDICTION. They guy already plays lacrosse at Broad Run High School, does he really need to play it online at home as well!? And now he is trying to drag me into it... And I'm a sucker... I've been trying to get this guy to take an interest in Converge since he doesn't do youth group anywhere. Great kid, wish I could get him to catch my passions and take off. And that was my week.
